Gary Dawkins

Lead Pastor

As Mercy's Lead Pastor, Gary guides the pastoral staff, oversees ministries, and serves as the visionary leader to grow Mercy's family and the greater community in loving God and others. He is passionate about discipleship, community care, justice, and wants to see all people flourish. Gary holds an MBA from Syracuse University, an MS in Communications Management from Morgan State University, and has attended Northeastern Seminary and Capital Bible Seminary. He loves to cook, is an avid reader, and among his favorite things are playing Monopoly with his wife, LeKita, and his daughter, Grace.

Mike Buerke

Associate Pastor

As lead associate pastor, Mike works directly with Mercy staff and leaders to develop smooth-operating church services, as well as helps with staff and leadership growth. Additionally, he serves on the finance team. His biggest passions are counseling people, teaching classes, writing, and identifying emerging leaders. His wife Annalisa is awesome and his kids are weird (which is exactly how he likes them). He’s an introvert, but has been known to get really chatty about baseball. His family has called Mercy home since 2009.

Tommy Wesley

Associate Pastor

Tommy serves on the preaching team, leads the Worship and Prayer Teams, and meets with individuals to provide prayer, pastoral counseling, and connection. He founded “Tommy K. Wesley and the Entourage,” and spends time singing and ministering to congregations around the country, sharing the good news of God’s redeeming, healing power. Be it music, preaching, or counseling, Tommy’s hope is to exemplify real Christian living. He is also a devoted father of four children.

Kelly Mortvedt

Associate Pastor

Kelly connects others to the Mercy community through Mercy groups, the coffee team, connection events, and the Welcome Desk. It makes her heart glad to see people connect, thrive, and use their gifts both at Mercy and in their day to day lives. Kelly’s StrengthFinder 2.0 results are: Empathy, Maximizer, Connectedness, Strategic, and Positivity, which translates to a life of endless coffee meetings, Google spreadsheets, and brainstorming/dreaming sessions. Kelly enjoys spending time with her husband Mike, son Judah and daughter Audra, trying out new Minneapolis restaurants in pursuit of the best fried chicken, and mastering the art of cold brew coffee.

Cassie Smith

Associate Pastor

Cassie is the Associate Pastor of Spiritual Formation and Kids Ministry at Mercy. She loves building teams, helping people use all they’ve got for God’s Kingdom, and learning to see and hear Jesus a little better every day. She would love to help you find a place to belong at Mercy. A few of Cassie's favorite places to be are walking around Lake Como, in any Twin Cities Coffee Shop, around a campfire, or at a table with friends and family.

Leo Alves

Youth Pastor

Leo oversees the youth ministry of Mercy. He’s Brazilian, born and raised. He also lived in New Jersey, Kansas City, and most recently Jacksonville, Florida. Leo’s married to the girl of his dreams, Sarah, and is the father of a wonderful little boy named Levi Joshua. Leo is a basketball fanatic, he loves soccer (futebol), and Brazilian steakhouses like all properly raised Brazilians should.

Markisha Herrod

Facilities Manager

Markisha enjoys time spent with her five kids, singing, shopping, and cooking. Volunteering on the worship team at Mercy fills her soul because her greatest passion is to witness to people and connect with God through worship.

Julie Bodurtha

Communications Lead

Julie oversees communications activities at Mercy. She is a mom of three, drummer for the band her husband Peter leads, hammock enthusiast, and finder of fun.
